Second Language Studies

The Program in Second Language Studies (SLS) focuses of the broad field of applied linguistics, uniting research, teaching, and service in addressing the second language learning needs of adult learners in the university and the wider community. Students and faculty study second language acquisition and discourse analysis, the structure of the English language, language assessment, and pedagogical theory and methodology for teaching English as a second language. Together, they teach English as a second language and provide teacher education opportunities in a variety of programs at the university. Faculty, students and graduates serve the needs of the wider community, carrying out research projects, providing teacher education, and teaching ESL to adults in community programs in the Metro area.
