November 21: Today at 3:30 pm in 229 Nolte Center we will hear from Linguistics graduate student Paula Chesley. Title: Predicting what new words survive: Lexical borrowings in French. Authors: Paula Chesley and R. Harald Baayen
November 14: 3:30 pm, 229 Nolte Center. Professor Anatoly Liberman, University of Minnesota, German Scandinavian and Dutch will speak on "The Science of Etymology Today".
November 7: Join us at 3:30 in 229 Nolte Center as we hear from guest speaker Michael Flynn of the Carleton College Linguistics program. Michael's talk will be titled, "A Modern Defense of the Ancient Japanese Writing System".
October 31: Please join us this Friday at 3:30 in Nolte 229 for a colloquium with Dr. Philip Burton entitled "An fMRI investigation of the role of left inferior frontal cortex in the verb generation task: Selection or retrieval?"
October 24: Join us at 3:30 in 229 Nolte as we hear from Mike Wilson, UMN Anthropology, on "Chimpanzee communication, cooking, and the evolution of human language."
October 17: In lieu of today's colloquium,all were encouraged to attend one or more sessions of MCWOP.
October 3: Our speakers will be Jeanette Gundel and Kaitlin Johnson, presenting a talk entitled "The Use of Referring Expressions by Young Children: Implications for Theory of Mind Development."
September 26: Amel Khalfaoui, Linguistics PhD Graduate student will be presenting her talk entitled "The choice between the demonstrative haða as a pronoun and as a determiner in Tunisian Arabic: A Relevance Theoretic account".
September 12: Our own Hiroki Nomoto,( Linguistics Ph.D. Grad Student) presented a paper he and Huiying Nala Lee (of National University of Singapore) wrote jointly, entitled "More than temporality: Ambiguity resolution of tense, aspect and modality in the instances of Singlish got".
